FAQ

  • Do I need to have prior experience with horses?

No, you do not need to have experience with horses! Most folks I work with have yet to gain prior experience working with horses.

  • Do I get to ride horses?

Riding can be a part of Equine therapy. This is only done after a relationship has been built between the client and the horse. Some folks may engage in Equine Therapy and never ride.

  • What do I wear to Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

Please make sure to wear closed-toed shoes. We recommend boots for better protection. It is also advisable to wear layered clothing that can get dirty. We meet rain or shine, so please dress according to the weather

  • Do you take insurance?

I currently only accept Aetna, Optum, and Cigna. If you do not have this insurance I can offer private pay! I have five sliding scale spots available session costs are $100-150 an hour. I provide superbills for folks with out-of-network benefits who wish to submit for reimbursement.

  • Can I do Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Tele-health

Telehealth is an offered service. However, my equine program and telehealth program are separate entities. If you choose to engage in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy you are required to attend in person. The horses are an integral part of this therapy and it is not feasible to include them in telehealth. If you choose to engage in telehealth services it will be telehealth only or we will meet at my office in Kennebunk

  • Can I do telehealth anywhere?

I am currently licensed in the state of Maine, which means you must also be located in the state of Maine. Telehealth must be done within the privacy of your own home. Due to HIPPA and confidentiality, you must be in a private area. If someone is present you must report this to your clinician. Recording of sessions is not allowed.
